Significance of Cows in Organic Farming

Posted by anhad on October 3, 2021

Organic farming is impossible without cows. The pesticide used in organic farming is sour fermented cow curd or खट्टी लस्सी . Some dairy owners (not all) beat cows, tie them to a rope by passing it through their nose. More-over, the new-born calf of cows is kept at a distance from the mother cow and not allowed to drink their cow mother’s milk. Some dairy owners (not all) abandon new born calf of cows in the forests. Human beings should remember that without cows, we will not be able to get organic food on our food plates.

Brutality of Humans on Cows :

Bovine somatotropin or bovine somatotrophin (abbreviated bST and BST), or bovine growth hormone (BGH), is a peptide hormone produced by cows’ pituitary glands.

Like other hormones, it is produced in small quantities and is used in regulating metabolic processes.

Recombinant bovine somatotropin (usually “rBST”), is a synthetic version of the bovine growth hormone given to dairy cattle by injection to increase milk production by some dairy owners (not all).

Banning use of rBST :

rBST has not been allowed since at least 2000 on the market in Canada, or since 1990 in the European Union (EU). Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Israel, and Argentina have also banned the use of rBST.

The FDA, World Health Organization, and National Institutes of Health have independently stated that dairy products and meat from rBST-treated cows are safe for human consumption.

An EU report on the animal welfare effects of rBST states that its use often results in “severe and unnecessary pain, suffering and distress” for cows, and is “associated with serious mastitis, foot disorders and some reproductive problems”.

Industrial production of rBST :

Four large pharmaceutical companies, MonsantoAmerican CyanamidEli Lilly, and Upjohn, developed commercial rBST products and submitted them to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for approval.

Monsanto was the first firm to receive approval.

Other countries (Mexico, Brazil, India, Russia, and at least ten others) also approved rBST for commercial use.

Monsanto licensed Genentech’s patent, and marketed their product as “Posilac”. In October 2008, Monsanto sold this business, in full, to Eli Lilly and Company for $300 million plus additional consideration

History of Chai in India :

Historical records indicate that tea has been consumed in India since as far as back to 750 B.C, as locals enjoyed the native tea plants of the Assam jungles. However, before that tea was originally used as a cooking ingredient than a beverage. Visiting India in 1538, the Dutch explorer John Hughen von Linshoten noted that as well as boiling the leaves to make a drink, Indian cooks would prepare tea leaves with garlic and oil as a popular vegetable dish.

An ancient Indian King had trouble remaining alert during long and challenging court sessions. By boiling the leaves of the tea plant with water and spices, this king remained alert and effective ruler, and so chai was born.

Before 19th century, the kings of Bhaarat and citizens of Bhaarat consumed Herbal tea. It was the 19th Century (1835) when India began to produce black tea on a commercial scale, all to meet the demands for the drink across the British Empire. British rule introduced Black tea in Darjelling in 1856. Please read the following article on History of Chai/tea :
